Mother and daughter, Maia and Alex live in present-day Montreal. When Maia unexpectedly receives the notebooks, photos and cassettes of her teenage best friend Julie, who has recently died, she refuses to open the package or engage with memories of the Lebanese war. Alex has no such qualms, diving into her mother's tumultuous young world, unlocking mysteries of a passionate and conflict-torn past. The filmmakers draw on their own memories to consider the effect of distance on relationships and how hope can succeed tragedy. Outstanding performances from the whole cast, especially the watchful Paloma Vauthier as Alex.
