Contract Type: freelance – 6 month contract
Salary: £14 per hour
Hours per week: Flexible. There is funding for 178hrs (22days) spread over the length of the contract.
Working pattern: Flexible. There is likely to be occasional evening and weekend work and attendance at some MBA trustee meetings will be required.

OVERVIEW OF MID BORDER ARTS
Mid Border Arts (MBA) promotes a wide range of arts activities in Presteigne Assembly Rooms. It aims to promote arts, education and community activities in the Mid Wales border area, integrating them into the community life of Presteigne and the surrounding area. The programme of events runs throughout the year with folk and classical concerts, cabarets, world music, theatre shows, literary talks, art exhibitions and films. There are also a number of regular workshops, including a community orchestra, two community choirs, writers’ group, discussion groups and yoga classes.
FACILITIES
The Assembly Rooms is an elegant Victorian building. The room upstairs has a domed ceiling and six large windows. It is well equipped with moveable raked seating for up to 100 people; theatre lighting, sound equipment, Blu-ray film projector and large screen. It also has a Steinway piano and excellent acoustics. Downstairs, the newly decorated Back Room is ideal for language and art classes; meetings and AGMs, workshops and coffee mornings. There is a kitchenette, lift and toilet with disabled access.
THE ORGANISATION
MBA is run by a board of eight volunteer trustees and one paid part-time Arts Co-ordinator. The purpose of the organisation is to provide a mixed programme of arts events and maintain the interior of the Assembly Rooms as a community facility. MBA is dependent on, and indebted to, a large number of volunteers.
Current partners include: Presteigne Screen, Borderlines Film Festival, Presteigne Festival, Sheep Music.
THE ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORKER
The Outreach Worker is expected to work with the Arts Coordinator and Trustees to create a welcoming, inclusive, safe and vibrant space that brings people together. We specifically want the outreach worker to consult and engage with a broad range of groups in the community to diversify and broaden the organisations and individuals accessing our venue.
There is scope for developments such as: activities for preschool children; enhanced links with schools; events for the older retired members of our community as well strengthening links with existing groups within the town.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Consultation
Create and nurture positive relationships between MBA and local community groups, stakeholders, schools, artists and hirers.
To facilitate a robust Community Engagement programme.
Assist with the coordination and delivery of consultation and outreach events.
Support MBA with the recruitment of new volunteers.
Evaluation and Monitoring
Produce evaluation reports at review points throughout the life of the contract.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORKER - PERSON SPECIFICATION
Educational qualifications
Essential - Good general education: 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English. High level of literacy and numeracy.

Work Experience
Essential - Evidence of ability to prioritise work, set targets, and achieve positive outcomes.
Evidence of ability to organise and manage time and resources effectively.
An understanding of Health & Safety.
Desirable - Experience working on community and arts projects.
Experience working in the local area.
Previous experience. Working with community groups and voluntary organisations.
Experience of small-scale funding.

Essential - Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Including an ability to relate to, and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience hosting in person and online meetings/events.
Experience using social media platforms.
Desirable - Experience producing press and marketing materials.
